2003 Vauxhall Meriva Oil Change

When my local garage gave up on diagnosing the problem indicated by the engine light on, I asked around and was told to put oil cleaner in, run the engine for 30 mins then change the oil and filter. I have bought the bits but can't even see the oil filter!
Can anyone help, please with this and also with the drain off point for the old oil.

please supply the fault codes given by the cars computer .. the light on dash is indicating there are fault codes stored .. we need these codes to be of assistance ..
