2002 Vauxhall Corsa 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

my corsa has the adgustable steering column can you tel me if the steering wheel is supposed to lift up and down a quarter of an inch there is no side play on the bearing and no problems with the steering in general and no signs of anything being broke it went through its mot last year like this but this year they say there is play in it ta

unfortunately there should be NO movement .. last year the examiner may have missed this on his inspection !
