Any input would be gratefully apreciated ps I used to work in a garage but in the repair of body work and painting so I can do the jobs just need sum help because ive never had to replace the boots just the shafts

Your easiest option is to remove the CV joint from shaft. The cone shape device rarely works without a lot of hassle (wasted time) or splitting the boot

The new boot should come with the correct clips. Cable tie's can be used as long as you get them tight enough. You can purchase the metal clips if they are not supplied with new boot !

Sorry not replied sooner. Work commitments and time difference etc. . Once you have removed the inner circlip from CV joint, the joint should come off with a little tapping !
