2001 Vauxhall Corsa 72500 miles

hello i have a vauxhall corsa x reg and have been having problems changing into first and second gear. Been told its definitely not linkage and it seems to be worse when coming from high gear into low gear. What could be the problem

Hi there,

You may have a faulty syncro ring, this is the part of the gear box that slows down the gear to be selected and "synchronizes" the speed with the selector hub which locks the gear on to the main shaft, If this syncro ring dose not slow down the gear the result is a hard shift as the hub and the gear are not synchronized in speed, low or incorrect oil can also do this, if the clutch was faulty you would have a problem in all gears.

I have no price lists for these box's at hand, you local transmission shop will be able to help out there , and as i am in Australia, my pricing will be different anyway.
