1996 Vauxhall Corsa Two Wheel Drive 120000 miles

Over the last six months while drivig the car would stop working losing all power. i wouild have to pull over, wait for a while restart the car would then fly off the engine sounding much different. i would drive some more then of the same over and over again till i would get to my destination. after a few months the car back fired and went okay but about a month later started stopping agin until it finally quit and hasn't gone since. I have had the sparks changed and other bits and pieces done to it but no success. pleaxe help
