How do you fix a rear spring on a 1.6 vauxhall astra?

You need to replace the spring. It cannot be repaired. You need to remove the strut form the car. Remove the spring from the strut (for which you need a special tool). Then replace in reverse order !

Right ok then thanks. What happens if I want to replace the back spring in a vauxhall astra? What is the process which I need to go through?

Remove the strut & spring from the car as a unit, they are joined together

apply the spring compressor tool to the spring

compress the spring

undo the top bolt holding the spring onto the strut

remove the spring from strut. Be very carefull this spring is compressed and if not done correctly can cause serious injury.

Remove spring compressor from old spring and compress new spring

replace in reverse order.

*****this can be a very dangerous repair if not carried out correctly*****
