Brakes problem
2001 Vauxhall Astra Manual 40000 miles

I recently bought my X-Reg Vauxhaull Astra 1.4LS (UK). I started getting noise when turning the steering wheel to the left or applying pressur eonto the brakes. I took the car to Kwik-Fit and they inspected the brakes and disc and advised that they were fine. I am not sure what could be causing the noise. Any suggestions

Hi there, can you describe the noise and are there any other physical symptoms that come to mind?

There are no other symptoms, as I understand when buying the car it had just passed its MOT, they fitted new brake pipes. The noise, how to describe this. Is as if someone is running their finger nails down a blackboard. When I apply pressure onto the brake peddle or turn the steering wheel left it occurs. Not knowing much about cars I was reading up about the brake pad sensor, could it be that the brake pad is rubbing against it when turning a corner?

P.S

I am taking the car back to the dealer today to ask them to give it a once over but it would be good if I could go back to them with possible solution behind the cause.

Hi there,

A brake sensor is a soft carbon probe that sits in a hole in the pad and when the brake get low enough to expose the probe it earths out on the rotor and turns on the warning light, this will not be the problem, I would be looking at the backing plate touching the rotor, being a stress or deflection problem and in one direction, it should not be that hard to spot with the car on a hoist.
