2001 Vauxhall Astra Location of the alternator

The battery was flat and on replacing it the battery light on the dash remained on and the power steering was heavy. This indicates from what I am told that the alternator needs replacing. I have to get the type/model of the alternator because I am told it could be one of three. I've looked but not sure where it is located. Can you please help?

any good autoparts store shouild be able to supply the correct alternator by supplyimg them with model engine size and year of manufacture ...
