my astra has blown its cylinder head gasket, am curious as its going to a vauxhall dealer through the insurance company how much it will cost to repair, as its not covered by the insurance as its a "mechanical" fault?

this repair at a standard everyday garage would cost in the region of £300 ... at a dealer you will be looking at around the £500 mark .. if they (insurance)are not paying, shop around for the best price you can get ..
