Transmission problem
1998 Vauxhall Astra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

I OWN A 1998 VAUXHALL ASTRA CONVERTIBLE WITH 1.8 ECOTEC (X18XE1) ENGINE. MY PROBLEM IS A HUMMING/RUMBLING NOISE THAT STARTS AT ABOUT 30MPH UP TO ABOUT 70MPH. I HAVE AN IDEA IT COULD BE EITHER CV JOINT , DRIVESHAFT OR WHEEL BEARING RELATED. AM I CORRECT AND HOW CAN I ELIMINATE CERTAIN PARTS AS I DONT WISH TO BUY PARTS UNTIL FINDING WHICH ONE IS THE PROBLEM ANY ADVICE WOULD BE A GREAT HELP THANKS

I would start by checking the wheel bearings .. jack up the vehicle .. hold top and bottom of wheel/tyre and rock inwards/outwards .. if there is any slight movement the bearing is bad !
