I bought this car as a cheap runaround and it's overheating when driving in stop start traffic..I'm assuming this is the fan not coming on as it seems to be OK on open roads. If it is the fan is there any reason that I couldn't just wire it straight into the battery so that it is on all the time, rather than bother with replacing coolant temperature sensors and what-not?

you could wire direct to battery ... but you would have to install some kind of switch on the system or it would run down the battery when the vehicle is not running !!
