Engine Performance problem
2004 Vauxhall Agila 4 cyl 45000 miles

Vehicle has no power and is very tappety Been on diagnostic machine and this came up with an air management component needing replacing - this has been done but problem persists. Mechanic suspects timing chain being loose to account for tappety noise but not sure what to do with the vehicle

This vehicle is fitted with a timing belt not a chain. So it cannot be a loose/noisy chain. Have the engine oil replaced for a slightly thicker grade oil and add a engine oil treatment to the engine, see if this clears the noise. If you suspect the timing belt tensioner is making the noise, replace belt and tensioner ASAP, if the belt breaks it will damage the engine. It is due for a belt change anyway, manufacturer recommended belt change is 60,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first !

The vauxhall agila 4 cylinder and 3 cylinder both use a cam chain and not a cam belt as answered in Dave H (expert)reply and yes it could be a chain problem
