Rough engine idle, hard to start, shuts off?

Hi,

White smoke is usually an indication that engine coolant is being burned in the combustion chamber. If you didn't have a PCM issue before repairs, chances are that isn't the issue, but there could be a connector issue. Check for anything that may be loose at the PCM.

Also, the PCM is the worst case. The heated O2 sensor won't prevent it from running. If it is possible, record it cranking and upload it for me to hear. Also, take a look through this link. See if anything mirrors what you are seeing.

I realize the head gaskets were just replaced, but we need to see if there is anything associated with the repairs.

I cleared the codes p0032. It cranks and won't turn over. Oil seems to not have coolant in it. Nothing is coming out of the exhaust pipe and there are no leaks. Rescanned and dtc came back up. Please see pic/video of me starting van. Thank you

It's a bit hard to hear, but for sure I am hearing no life to it. Were you able to check if there is an ignition spark to the plugs or if it will start with starting fluid? That will tell me a lot.

I do see the O2 code. I don't feel that would prevent it from starting. Also, I don't see why the PCM would suddenly fail after a head gasket replacement. Let me know about the spark and fuel. I have a feeling one is missing.

Also, if your scan tool has live data, check to see if there is an RPM signal when cranking the engine and check the engine coolant temperature signal. Let me know what they are.

Got van started. Rough idle/white smoke coming out of exhaust. Cleared p0032 code it resurfaced again. I replaced the following: intake lower/upper gaskets, head gaskets,new oil,plugs,wires and coil. Van has sat for over 8 months with a little under half tank of gas. Could stale gas cause these symptoms? Test started engine with out coolant. Please see video.

Old fuel can cause similar problems. However, it really isn't old enough to cause this issue at this point.

The exhaust seems to be steam. What is the clicking sound I'm hearing? Listening to the exhaust and watching the engine, it doesn't seem to be running too rough, but I'm not there. The noise is my biggest concern.

Also, when you had the head off, were you certain the timing was correct when it was reinstalled?

Timing chaining or gears were not removed. Is there a way to check to see if timing is off? What's the next step? Thanks

I attached a pic below showing the timing chain and marks. There are three links that are a different color than the others. They need to be positioned with the marks.

However, rather than removing the timing chain cover, I would check the engine compression to see if the timing could be an issue. Here is a link that explains how it's done. Note that you will need a compression gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Let me know. Also, is this the original engine? If it is, has the timing chain ever been replaced?
