Been having misfires and been changing the coils. Changed out all the sparks last year. When I pull out the coils there is some fluid on it. I talked to a local mechanic and he was saying it could be because of the valve cover gasket leaking and causing them to short out or whatever. I would like another opinion. Is he wrong and what would be the cause of it?

Oil around the coils can short them out and cause misfires, actually pretty common reason on a variety of cars and trucks. Gasket and o-ring replacement should stop any leaks and prevent misfires from oil.

These are the sequences for the left and right sides. Do not forget the small beads of sealant at the timing cover to head joints.
