My valve body cover has rusted through (seems to be a common problem with this body style). I cannot get the valve body cover past the cross member. How can I remove the valve body cover without removing the transmission? I'm working in home garage with basic tools, no lift. Thanks.

Hi,

I dug through all my manuals and there are no specific directions related to this. Not even directions for filter replacement. What I need you to do is take a few pics of what is preventing you from removing the pan. I'm picturing it in my mind, but I'm not able to picture what is preventing it.

Is it possible for you to upload a few pics so I can see how it blocked?

If I recall, first the battery and battery tray will need to be removed. After that, there is a bracket on the transmission pan that holds the dipstick in place. That will need to be removed. After that, I remember draining the fluid and removing the pan bolts from the underside of the vehicle. You will need to remove the transmission range sensor. If I recall correctly, there is a bolt hidden under it as well.

That is from memory. I'm not sure why nothing is listed.

Let me know if any of that helps.

Take care,
Joe
