Does my v6 Accord need a valve adjustment? Its running fine tapping noise briefly in very cold start up. It's got 168 thousand miles. I was told it does not need a valve adjustment, but I'm not sure. It runs fine and only makes a tapping noise in cold weather start ups. I was told it's because it's a quart low on oil. I guess that could have been the problem. Thanks very much. Tom. Honda freak. It could be that being a quart low is what's causing it. Try using oil slightly higher and see what happens. Also, I recommend you change your oil/filter.

Honda recommends checking the valve clearance at 60,000 miles or when they are noisy.
