Oil pressure chime

Oil pressure chime will not stop going off.

Hi Jennifer,

If the oil pressure chime is going off then you need to first check the oil level before you drive the vehicle again. If the oil is low then you need to fill it to the proper level or get an oil change.

If the engine has oil in it then we need to check the actual pressure while the engine is running with an oil pressure gauge.

If you have low pressure with a gauge, then it is most likely one of two things. First, it could be an oil pump. Second it could be your engine beginning to fail. The oil pressure is actually created by tight tolerances between the bearings inside the engine. When these begin to widen or wear out the oil pressure cannot build as high because the pump can't pressurize the system as easily. This is due to bearings failing and the only way to fix it is to rebuild or replace the engine. Clearly this is worst case so let's check the other items first.
