2007 Chrysler Pacifica "perform service" message

When you start the car, there is a ding and the "perform service" message comes up for a few seconds. What does this mean?

Your car at one time "Threw a Code| which is now stored in your computer. You'll need to diagnose the code to determine what the issue was and than clear the code. I recommend the Dealer.
