Okay, so I got my car stuck in the winter storm we had last month and ever since when I accelerate uphill I get a knocking sound coming from my motor. Also my oil light keeps coming off and on around curves! Oil level is where it is supposed to be oil pressure sending unit was replaced last week! The problem stopped for one day and then came right back.

Good evening,

This sounds like a failure in the motor for oil pressure from getting stuck. The oil light coming on while the engine is running is the indicator.

You need to have someone test the actual oil pressure with a gauge to be sure there is pressure.

1. To remove the relief valve, proceed as follows:

Fig. 116

2. Remove the threaded plug and gasket from the oil pump (Fig. 116).

CAUTION: Oil pump pressure relief valve must be installed as shown in (Fig. 116) or serious damage may occur.

3. Remove spring and relief valve (Fig. 116).
4. Remove oil pump cover screws, and lift off cover.
5. Remove pump rotors.

6. Wash all parts in a suitable solvent and inspect carefully for damage or wear (Fig. 117).

The oil light was doing this before I got it stuck. At first I thought it was low on oil but I bought a quart to top it if and when I checked the dipstick it was where it was supposed to be. So I looked into what would cause that and I was told to try changing the oil pressure sending unit. I'm going to see if I can find someone to check the oil pressure that won't charge me an arm and a leg to do so. Thank you
