My car started making a loud ramming noise while driving on the highway, eventually my car lost its speed and I had to pull over. When looking under the hood I noticed that something had sprayed in my engine and this little has popped out. I’ve tried looking for the name of this part, but no luck so far. Here are some pics to help y’all out. Oh and the car won’t start. It makes a slight turing noise but it doesn’t do anything.

That is the variable cam timing solenoid that is mounted precariously near the timing gears and chain. My guess would be that the timing chain broke, thus taking out the variable can timing solenoid assembly, but to verify this I would start by doing a visual inspection by removing the valve cover on either side. This is an interference engine, meaning that if this chain breaks, the piston will hit the valves and damage the valves and/or pistons.
