12 pin connector
jumper wire from a to b terminal
turn ign. key on and the cooling fans kick on, and the check engine light does not flash

the car will start and run, but runs rough like the firing order is off or something similiar

Your car is OBD1 so the codes won't be much help anyway because they didn't even track misfires back then. If you have a misfire, you're going to have to find it the old way by testing for RPM drop of each cylinder when it's disabled.
