Turn signal socket not locking in?

My right turn signal stopped working and it was determined by a mechanic to be the socket. Dealership ordered a new socket. This new one won’t lock into place. It turns about 1/20 of a turn and then feels like it gets stuck and won’t budge, so the signal still isn't working. If I remove the working socket from the left signal and put it in the right side, the right side will work fine. If I try the new socket on the left side, it does the same issue - barely turning and causing the signal to not function. I have ordered 2 sockets in case the original was just faulty but I am still having the same issue.

Hi,

It sounds like the new socket is bad. They need to turn 1/4 turn to make connections and work. If you can't get it to turn that far, the light won't have power.

Do me a favor. See if the new ones you ordered work for you. If they don't, let me know and we'll figure it out one way or another. Also, check the electrical connector on both the new connector and the light assembly. The two need to make contact.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you so much for responding. The new sockets are both having the same issue where they won’t turn far enough. It’s so frustrating because this feels like it should be such an easy fix! I have tried every combination of old socket vs new socket in both turn signals, and the old ones turn without issue and the new ones both jam. We have an appointment in a couple of weeks at the dealership, but this has been going on for about a month already, so I was hoping to figure it out on my own. I appreciate your response!

I wanted to comment and say I got it fixed today. For whatever reason, both new sockets I got had one metal piece (sorry, don’t know the real term) that was slightly longer than the originals, so it was catching. Mechanic was able to file it down slightly.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. Anything to make things a bit more difficult. Regardless, thanks for letting me know and I'm glad to know you got it fixed.

Take care and feel free to come back anytime in the future.
