I tried looking up the location of chime module but no luck. It is a super duty diesel truck.

Hi,

The door chime and signal indicator sound is controlled by the instrument cluster. Are you noticing anything other than that failing?

The reason I ask is because I have the diagnostics, but it's about 20 pages long and requires a lot of specialized tooling.

Let me know.

Joe

I think that is all. It's my boss's truck. He said that's the two main things not working.

Brandon,

We really need to scan the can-bus to see if there are any codes stored. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. Here is a link showing how it's done.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

I noticed there are many codes related, so this could potentially point us to the issue.

I also found a test and attached it below. Take a look at it and let me know if you are comfortable performing it.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Maybe not, but it's worth a try. If you have a chance, let me know what you find.

Not throwing codes and fuses are good. Should I just replace instrument cluster?

The chime is produced through the radio speakers, can I ask if the radio is working? Also have you checked all fuses with the system on, this guide can help.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

If the radio works and the fuses are good it sounds like the SJB (smart junction box) is going out but to be sure let's do a CAN scan, you can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

Here is how to change the SJB out, check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

Yeah, it was the instrument cluster like I said so thanks for nothing. All you did was try to get me to spend money on useless stuff. I diagnosed it myself.

Brandon,

The cluster is where I started but didn't want to suggest replacing it until I had confirmation it was bad. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. Trust me when I say, I wasn't trying to get you to spend money. It is quite the opposite. Also, I realize you needed answers quicker, but please understand, I work two jobs and do this at night to help people. I'm not getting rich.

Regardless, I'm glad to know you got it figured out and it's working.

Take care,

Joe
