I have the vehicle listed above XLT 5.4L Triton 16V 8CYL and I need help with doing a tune up I was told that I needed to change my 4 spark plug and the miss firing will would that be a proper tune up or should I just do them all at once

I will need a full layout of where and how to get the tune up done because this will be my first time doing a tune up and YouTube showed me what and how to do it on a 03 F-150 and kind of lost me.

Hi,

As far as a tune up is concerned, you have to be really careful with this engine. They have a very long history of the spark plugs breaking off in the cylinder head. If that happens, it is a nightmare to repair.

All eight spark plugs should be replaced, not four. They are all located under the individual ignition coil pack at each cylinder.

Here is a link that explains in general how to perform a tune up:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-tune-up-a-car-engine

The link provides information at a general level, but it is relevant in this case. I did attach the directions specific to this vehicle below. Note: It is showing one side of the engine. You will have 4 coils on each side totaling 8.

Be extra careful removing the old spark plugs. If they feel like they are stuck, don't force them.

Let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Take care,

joe

See pics below. Note: If I recall correctly, the bolts holding the coils should be a 10mm.
