Ok so my truck started making a ticking noise right before I had to make a long trip for my daughters surgery. We made it and started headed back home. I noticed when I mashed the gas it hesitated. So Im driving and it starts like shaking and didn't want to go when I mashed the gas so I pulled over and it died. When I tried to start it it wouldn't unless I held the gas peddle to the floor but then when I let off it died again. I didn't try anything else with it because I didn't want to cause more damage. Can anyone help me and tell me what you think is wrong? Thanks in advance.

This sounds like a weak fuel pump, stuck open EGR valve, or the engine has had a failure, which the ticking noise in the engine before the trip began can be a clue. If the cam phaser jumps timing, or the VCT system loses oil pressure, the engine will:

1. misfire
2. stall
3. not idle
4. run only with throttle
5. throw cam timing codes (P0011/P0012/P0021/P0022)

How does the engine sound while is it cranking? If you upload a short video from under the hood I can tell if the timing has jumped and you have bigger problems. We should runt he codes to help confirm the issue.
