The vehicle is having trouble starting after sitting for a few hours. The car will crank for 10-20 seconds and then start. Once started it runs fine and if you shut it off will start back up fine. I have noticed that while cranking if you tap the gas it will start. We have taken it to the dealer and gotten the 80,000 mile service. The battery is fine, new spark plugs, my next stop is changing the fuel filter and hoping that fixes the problem. any insight?

Thanks,

Jayson

Check for any pending codes, if Nome found try cleaning the throttle body plate.

Dealer checked for codes when we had the 80,000 mile service and nothing came up. when you turn the key to the on position i can hear the fuel pump prime. if you do this 3 or 4 times the car starts fine. I took it to a mechanic other than the dealer and they said that the fuel pressure was fine (not sure i trust it though) gonna change out the fuel filter and see if this changes anything.

Yes the car had the problem before the service. Changed the fuel filter today and the problem persists. When you turn the key on i can hear the fuel pump come on. After you start the car one it will start fine. The problem only happens when the car sits for an hour or so. Is the fuel system just losing to much pressure while sitting?

Changed the fuel filter and still having the same problem. If you get in the car and turn the key on and off several times allowing the fuel pump to "prime" the system the car will start fine. Its almost like the fuel system loses pressure after sitting. If the fuel pump was not working properly wouldn't the car run bad? Ie. no power and sputtering at idle? The car runs fine which makes me think that the fuel pump is fine. I am a little stumped on this.
