I bought this car at 13,000 miles and the gearbox was a dream to use.

Since then the clutch has begun to get heavy at a very quick rate to say I have only put an additional 5,000 miles on since may (now December).

I do not ride the clutch or over rev when pulling off so I am at a loss to explain this.

As well as the above my main issue is that the car will not willingly go into first gear sometimes and has to be "forced". Every other forwards gear is perfect other than first (this includes while stationary and the vehicle is moving with the clutch down).

Reverse is also now an issue, with the clutch having to be "wiggled" to get the car into reverse.

Can anyone shed some light on these problems and what the cause may be? I do not think it is right that I take away a car that is perfect initially and then have all these problems eight months down the line (especially given the cars low mileage and is a diesel).

Thanks

The clutch may be due to be replaced, if the dive take up is almost with the pedal fully released the clutch is well worn and probably due for replacement, please advise if the drive is taken up with the pedal near fully released.

Hi there,
The drive take-up is still very low. About two-thirds pressed down.

The clutch just feels far heavier than when I collected the car 8 months ago and its coupled with the gearbox issues.

The gearbox feels like its snagging on something when im putting it into first and won't go in without either coercion (force) or putting the car back into neutral and trying again. However the issue is intermittent (i have not noticed any indication its due to temperature as it occurs when the car is warmed up as well as cold)

Thanks for your reply and I look forward to more advice.

May be worth changing the transmission oil, but the snagging is a concern, this can be a failed reaction spring in the syncro hub, the spring clip(there are 2 on each hub) locate the 3 reaction clips that guide and lock the hub sleeve on the selector hub, if a clip is broken, the sleeve can jamb and this may be the notchy feel and the locking you are feeling.
