Accelerating and decelerating issue

SUV cranks and drives. When I press my foot on the gas the mileage goes up but it goes back down then my truck starts slowing down.

I am not sure I understand what the issue is. Does the engine only start when you press the accelerator? Then what do you mean the mileage goes up but then back down? Do you mean the speed goes up when you press the accelerator?
