Car would shift through all gears but as soon as I slowed down it would shift into 2nd gear and stay there. I stop the car and shut the engine off and the car would shift fine through all gears until slowing down and then shift into 2nd again. I replaced the input and output sensors. No help. I replaced the transmission solenoid and now the car will only reverse. When put in a forward gear the transmission locks up.

Hi,

If it was staying in 2nd gear, that is limp mode. What do you mean by the transmission locks up? When you place it in drive, is it like the transmission is in park?

Next, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? This vehicle has an OBD1 system that doesn't require a scanner to retrieve codes.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/retrieve-trouble-codes-for-chrysler-dodge-plymouth-odb1-1995-and-earlier-car-mini-van-and-light-trucks

If you haven't done that, try it and see what is stored.

Last, did this problem start all at once or were there indicators that there could be a transmission issue? Keep in mind that limp mode doesn't always relate to the transmission. Anything malfunction that the manufacturer deems as possibly causing more damage can place it in this mode.

Let me know the condition of the transmission fluid when you did the work.

Let me know.

Joe

I guess I should start over. My granddaughter brought the car to me with the car shifting from overdrive to 2nd gear after the car slowed down to maybe 35 MPH. I replaced the input, output, and park sensors. Replaced the transmission filter and transmission oil. No help. So, I replaced the solenoid pack. Now it will go into reverse, but in any forward gear it will move a few feet and lock up as if it were in park. I had disconnected the battery when I put the solenoid pack in, and I couldn't find those old codes. Right now, its throwing a 33 and a 7.
I'm wondering if I got the correct solenoid. Haven't put the old one back on yet.

Hi,

Something isn't making sense. There is no code 7. Code 33 indicates an issue related to the A/C compressor clutch. See pic below

Are you sure there isn't another number along with the 7?

Let me know. Also, I think it would be a good idea to reinstall the original solenoids to see if it starts working again.

Take care,

Joe
