Was driving on the highway and car started drifting like it shifted in to neutral. I pulled over and tried to shift in to park. I do not have any gears at all. I turned the car off and then back on. I have no gears. I checked the fluid, it is brown and smells burnt. Transmission warning light was on the display. Do I need to replace the transmission?

A tear down would need to be done. At least remove the transmission pan and inspect for metal flakes and excessive clutch material. If dropping the pan you see that then I would recommend just replacing the transmission. You can find new transmissions online with a decent warranty.

Also, if you replace the transmission, make sure you flush out the cooler lines so the old fluid does not mix with the new.
