I was driving down the road when I lost all gears. I pulled over I don’t have park and when I try to put it in reverse or drive there is a very loud clunking/rattling noise, but when I looked around there was no fluid or pieces on the ground and there was no metal shavings in the fluid. I’ve never had problems with the transmission since I’ve had the car since 2015. I’m just wondering if the transmission is complete done for or if it’s just a linkage that broke in the transmission?

When you add the fact that you have no gears and the noise, it sounds like the transmission has failed internally. How did you look for metal? Did you drop the pan? This is where the metal shavings will be so we need to drop the transmission pan and see what is in there.

Once we see what is in the pan we can take next steps. Unfortunately there are no easy ways to find this out without dropping it. Thanks
