The transmission in my vehicle is very clearly about to go. It’s an old Jeep, and I was looking into swapping the old trans out for the Torquelite zf8 transmission. My buddy works for a dealership and says that it’s all possible because the bell housing and everything is close to the same, but would there be issues with the ECM and transfer case if I ended up swapping in an 8 speed transmission for a vehicle that’s got optional 4wd?

I would not recommend this because you will need the computer that runs the transmission and wiring harness as well. It would be cheaper just to rebuild the transmission currently in your car. Here are instructions on how to remove the transmission for the rebuilt unit which you can find by searching google or eBay.

This video will help as well, the car is different, but the steps are the same.

Oh, it’ll definitely be easier to just rebuild the current transmission, but I want to go fast. Built not bought baby.
