Will a manual transmission from a 99 dodge Dakota replace an automatic transmission in a 99 dodge Durango?

If they have the same engine size and both are 2wd, it should work. However, you need to install a clutch pedal as well as the shifter. Additionally, the driveshaft may need modifications when it comes to length.
The Durango has a 5.9L. I wouldn't recommend using the transmission from a 4-cylinder or the 3.9L engine.

Are you referring to the starter not engaging, or the engine won't start? If it is the starter, how did you bypass the neutral safety switch?
