When it starts, I shift the transmission into reverse it works, when I shift it into neutral it works but once I put it in drive it shuts off.

This sounds like the torque converter is locked up causing it to stall in drive and low RPM.

I would change the fluid and filter to start in case there is debris in the valve body.
