Make sure the transmission fluid is full and clean. If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned to determine if there is a trouble code related to the transmission. If there is, let me know what it is. If the fluid is full and clean, no codes, and this is the original transmission with 170,000 miles on it, it may need rebuilt and is slipping due to wear.
