A friend of mine, his son was about to park the car at his work, and not sure if he placed the shifter in park a bit sooner than he should have or what but he says he heard a grind and then the car was stuck in reverse. Won't start, gear shifter will not move. Sent someone to xhexk it he said same thing. Had him tow it to me. I played with the shifter a bit and took some force to get the vehicle to start. I tried to move the car while it was in reverse, or neutral but all acted as neutral. Tried to mive shifter u der the hood but could not. Do i have to have someone onside the car with foot on the brake to even mive this shifter under the hood? Could be that something got broken inside the transmission that has to do with the shifter. I will have to take down the pan to see. I doubt a bad neutral switch would disable me from being able to move the shifter with foot on brakes. If i remove the bolt from the shifter under the hood should i not be able to move the shifter by hand? Or is there a safety thing that prevents me from doing ao whether engine on or off?

If you disconnect the shifter at the transmission you should be bale to move it, and also check the shift arm on the transmission as well, you should be able to move that by hand as well, this will tell us which component is having the issue. From your description, especially the grinding noise followed by the transmission becoming stuck in Reverse, I suspect we may have a mechanical problem rather than an electrical issue with the neutral safety switch.
