The shift lever on steering wheel will not manually pull down into first gear and only display it going down to second?

Purchase this vehicle a few months ago, notice two problems, shall ask about, one at a time so as most confusion. The shift lever on steering wheel will not manually pull down into first gear and only display it going down to second as well, seems to shift right from a start point in drive. thinking may need a manual first gear someday.

It sounds like the shift cable is stretched or the gear range sensor has fallen apart internally and won't allow the first gear selection. I would remove the shift cable from the transmission to try to move the shift arm on the transmission to first gear manually. If you can't here are the instructions on how to change the gear range sensor out. I have also included the shift cable replacement instructions as well. Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
