Any mechanics help appreciated!

My car listed above Touring is currently broken down in my yard, been trying to figure it out however having no luck. I can’t afford right now to get it towed to a mechanic to be told it’s going to cost thousands just for me to have it towed back home. Just want to know what’s really wrong before I replace the transmission due to not understanding.

Anyways.

The car stopped accelerating while driving it would rev like in neutral but wouldn’t go. It was having issues revving to high while driving before it would shift. It had no check engine lights when it stopped working.

It didn’t have a dipstick so hadn’t had its transmission serviced in the 2 years I have had it and maybe lot longer.

We changed the oil and filter put some transmission fix in it hoping it was that. That did not show any indication in helping.

At this point when I would push on gas and let go it would rev really high by it self. I can barely tap the gas and it revs.

A check engine light is now on.

The codes are p0716, p0791 and p0721.

Came back as

P0721 Chrysler Output Speed Sensor Range/Performance

The P0791 code is a generic OBD-II trouble code that notes an issue with the transmission intermediate shaft speed sensor circuit, which relays shaft speed data to the powertrain control module (PCM).

P0716 CHRYSLER Description
The Input Speed Sensor detects the primary pulley revolution speed and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM sets the OBDII code when the Input Speed Sensor is out of factory specifications.

we replaced the transmission speed sensor that did not help.

Everyone says replace the transmission but I don’t have much money due to not being able to work, and honestly I’m not sure that it’s not something simpler then that.

Good afternoon,

Your fears are correct.

You have a bad transmission. The codes that are set are because the TCM should see readings with the transmission in selected gears and it is not seeing any signals.

The bottom line is it needs a transmission.

I would consider getting a used one and saving a lot of money.

I attached an example of pricing for transmissions. You can go to www.car-part.com and enter your information and zip code. It will list local yards with the transmission.
