Hey Ken,

I changed the transmission fluid a few weeks ago with Valvoline Synthetic oem ATF in the red 5 quart container. Occasionally, I hear metal to metal tap that sounds like a hammer hitting the atm oil pan. It did it again today once. I had been sitting parked in town for about 15 to 30 minutes. When I started it up and as soon as I put it in reverse to back out, I heard the tap. When I put it in forward, it does not do it. After I drive it and put it reverse before I park it again, it does not do it. When I try to get it to do it, it does not do it. Why does it make that single tap sound occassionally?

Thanks,

M D

Hello,

It sounds like you have an engine mount (torque) that is out but to be sure can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response. Here is a guide to help you see what I am talking about and diagrams below to help you on your car.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

It doesn't do very often and don't know when it may do it again. I never considered the motor mounts as the suspect in this case.

Thanks,

I would lift the hood and start the engine while watching the engine put the transmission in forward gear then reverse gear to check the engine movement.
