Only way transmission would work right would be to put into fourth gear manually. It would shift 1 through 6 like it is supposed to but overdrive did not work. Now must put into third gear manually and if it tried to shift into fourth it would act like it was in neutral and the only way to get it to work would be to stop and shut off the truck and restart it and put it into third manually.

Hello, I am Danny.

Quick question first. Is the Check Engine Light on? A code might be stored for your Transmission issue.Having the Check Engine Light on means there is a fault code stored in your car's computer. Having the code checked is a great way to star diagnosis of your car's problem. If you do not have access to a code reader/scanner your local auto part stores (Autozone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's) will check for free. If you get back to us with the code number(s) we will be happy to help. I have attached a tutorial showing what is involved with checking codes. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hello,

Can I get the code numbers please? It sounds like the input shaft sensor is not working right or you have a shift solenoid that is shorted out. Please let me know.

With that many codes we need to clear them. Then without starting the truck turn the key on then scan for codes again to see what comes up. It looks like we have one issue causing the problems. This hard code check will point us in the right direction.

I did that. The 2 codes that popped up after I cleared them and drove was p0871 and either p0882 or p0871. I will do it again.

Yes, clear the codes then don't start the engine, just turn the key on then run the codes.

Okay cool, so we got p0882 and p0871 both transmission related codes. I have seen the TRS go bad causing the codes but we should do a pin th pin to make sure the connection are all good. Here is a guide to help us with that and the transmission wiring diagrams so you can see how it works with instructions on how to change out the TRS.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
