Good morning, yes it has me puzzled. The rear end seems to lock up when it gets above 20 mph and it will not shift out of first or second. I think it might be taking off in second.

Okay, the axle should never lock up unless the transmission is going into two gears at one time.

What transmission do you have?

Any previous repairs?

Did you try it in both two wheel and four wheel drive?

My step son just bought the truck. It is in good shape, runs well. It is 5.8 with the E4od. Yes, I checked the two and four wheel drive. And locked at back brakes.

Okay, you said the magic word, E4OD. That explains it. That transmission was nothing but a headache from the day it was made.

I had several lock up on me that way. They get into two gears at once and that is the result.

If you leave it in manual low, does it still lock up?

It is at a shop now. Waiting to hear back from them. Yea, that transmission is junk since they came out, lol.

If it is the transmission, ask them about upgrading the transmission.

Ask him about installing or finding a C6 transmission which was the other option for that year.

That is an excellent transmission. It is a 3 speed instead of the 4 speed you have but much better reliability.
