I’m having trouble with my neutral safety switch. I was driving on interstate with the truck on cruise control and boom she jumps out of gear. The motor redlines and but truck isn’t pulling but she still running, and it says it’s in gear, so I pull off. The engine still runs at this point, but she won’t move and on further inspection noticed that one of the wires leading to the plug on neutral safety switch is broken. I ended up having to get it towed because she refused to start or even attempt to crank, truck just dims out and acts like battery completely dead when I try and turn it over. I’ve bought a replacement plug for the switch and spliced them correctly, but I noticed that the new plug has seven wires but under the truck I only have six that I could see and splice. I also noticed last night that the truck has seven different positions for changing gears or what not. Park all the way to first and each time I move the gear shifter to change out of park to the gear there is a line underneath each gear indicating which gear you're in except for Park. Question I have is, am I missing a wire and if so how do I fix this?

Hi,

Interestingly, my wiring schematic shows five wires. See pic 1 below.

If the indicator is showing all gears but park, are you sure the shift cable is properly adjusted? Does the indicator show neutral? Will it start in neutral?

Do me a favor. Take a look through the directions below explaining how to adjust the shift cable. See if that is what is needed.

Let me know.

Joe
