I just replaced my vehicle alternator after the outside fan belt pulley failed. After this, the engine is running but when you put the vehicle on D or R gears, the car doesn't move and displays "transmission malfunction". What do I need to do?

Hi,

Is the shift indicator showing the correct gear selection? Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine runs?

I have to ask, was the alternator bad? You indicated the pulley broke.

I checked through my manual, and there is a section specific to this message. It indicates a problem with either the body control module (BCM) or the transmission control module (TCM). The alternator shouldn't have affected either of those unless it was over charging.

First, I need you to check two fuses in the under hood fuse box. Fuses F15 and F41. See pic 2 below for location. Here are a few links you may find helpful:

If the fuses are good, here is the test procedure which requires specialized tooling. The pic attached is the actual diagnostic flow chart. I realize this is something you may not be comfortable with, but wanted to add it so you could see what will need done.
