My transmission is spitting fluid out of the access port on the Bellhouse while idling but not driving.

Hello,

Can you upload a picture of where it is leaking from?
Is it from the fill plug on the top of the transmission (some of these do not have a dipstick).

Did you have this serviced recently?

Let me know what you get.
Thank you.

I have not had it serviced at all. I just tried to fill it up with fluid and it still won't even go into 1st now. I will upload a picture in the morning when it is light out and I can get a good picture. Also this has a dipstick.

This is where it's coming from which is the access port to the torque converter. Before when it wouldn't shift all I needed to do is fill the Transmission fluid back up and it would drive fine. Well, today I filled it and put it in drive, and it won't move an inch forward.

It almost appears a piece is missing on the housing, which is allowing all the fluid to come out. Do you know if the car ran over something or hit a rock of some kind?

Keep in mind that if there is little or no fluid the transmission will not shift. As it will not have any fluid pressure to do so.

Okay, I understand that there is the rubber plug missing that covers that hole, but my question is When removing a transmission at the point of needed to access the torque converter bolts in the bellhousing "There should be no fluid coming from where you access each nut, correct?" So how many quarts does it take from completely empty in order for it to register and go into gear? Which seal could it be if it was coming from that hole?

That is correct, removing a cover from access hole will not make it leak fluid.
The leak could be from the torque converter seal or the converter itself can leak as well.

This transmission takes 8.6 quarts as the complete capacity. That includes all the fluid.

So, would you recommend replacing the whole transmission or pulling the torque converter and replacing that and the seal?

Well, that will depend on a few factors. Like if there is any other issue with the transmission?
If leaking fluid is the only problem, repairing that would be ideal.
However, if there are other issues like hard shifting or others then replacement or rebuilt might be the way to go.
So, it is all about the current condition/issues.

Replacing the seal will require removal of the converter, to do that you will have to remove the transmission.
Look below for the seal replacement instructions.
If you need the transmission removal info just let me know.
