Car stalls in reverse?

When I shift into reverse, the car shuts off. If I quickly bypass reverse and select drive, it drives. However, if I slip it into neutral it sounds like the transmission is going to fall out.

I have seen a broken air intake tube cause this, but we should start with a code scan. this guide can help us:
