Transmission will not shift into neutral when starting?

My truck won't go into gear when I start it, I have to cycle the key quite a few times and then it will shift into neutral. I'm trying to figure out the problem.

Can I ask if you mean the gear selector will not move or it moves but the transmission will not engage? If it is the latter I would check the transmission fluid level and if that is okay, I would run the codes, here are guides to help us see what's going on:

Okay, so it sounds like the shift lock is not working, I would check the B/U LP fuse and the BTSI fuse both are under the hood. Here is a guide to help and test the fuses, also if the fuse is okay here is the location of the shiftlock and how to adjust or replace it in case the fuses are okay.
