transmission issue?

2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS
185,000 MILES • 3.8L • V6 • 2WD • AUTOMATIC

not sure why they made a 6 speed and an 8 speed transmission on these cars, one is the Z 6 speed, if I decide to change the transmission on it, which is the 8 speed, does it need programming?

The two transmissions are not interchangeable. They use different wiring harnesses and programming as well as other pieces like the shift assembly, and more that are not compatible.

Ya i know. Am asking if i changed it with another used one that is the ssme type will i need any type of primary grogramming?

OK, if you swap for the same version it still needs programming because the VIN sets a lot of parameters. However you can do the re-learn without a scan tool. Disconnecting the power erases the learned items. Then follow the directions attached to teach the new unit.
