Transmission id different

More than likely it doesn't mean what I think you are heading for, which is if this is not the original transmission. Can you get a picture of the numbers that you are talking about? If it is what I am thinking then these are manufacture codes/supplier codes. Basically, when a vehicle is being sequenced it gets a transmission put in it off the shelf. Just the next one in line. If you see the assembly line then you would understand a little better but they need to know what transmission is what as they all look similar so the supplier that builds these units has their own identification system and that is different then the one the OEM (Dodge) uses so that number will not match what is on the tag.

According to techauthority.com , the large raised numbers as part of the transmission housing/shell , with "AA-"...after, located on the same side as the id tag and id sticker for a NAG1 transmission, are supposed to reflect the last 3 numbers of the serial number (located on the id tag and the sticker's bottom number) as well as the large numbers located to the right side in the sticker . The id tag's numbers are clearly not done by a factory machine- but instead crudely hand etched. And there is a 4th row of faint , etched numbers below the numbers crudely etched, to reflect the stickers (which is peeling off on its own and is clean compared to the metal tag which looks faded and numbers are different sizes , spaced then close fit ect..)plus- the faint , 4th row of numbers under those crude numbers, do not reflect the numbers on the sticker. A flash from camera is how i saw them . The 4th row of numbers on id tag , To the naked eye- is difficult to see numbers as clear.

It's possible that these were written on there from the supplier but as you are describing them, they sound more like a salvage yard. They just scratch and etch markings into the case so they don't get worn off. Doesn't sound like something the OEM would do.

Thing is, the numbers do not coincide with the raised large numbers that are actually on the transmission housing. They are supposed to mirror the last 3 numbers of serial number. They do not.

Would this then indicate that the id sticker and the hand done numbers on the metal tab are fraudulently placed there?

For what purpose would someone have to do this fraudulently? Even if the transmission is not the original or this was done as you are asking, it doesn't effect the value of a 3.6L Challenger.

As I said before, anything that is etched by hand would not be done by the OEM so I would assume this is a replacement transmission.

I attached the ID info from the manual and the technician training book. These are the only identifying marks that are put on by the OEM. If there are others, they could be supplier markings but those are normally done in paint. Nothing etched by hand.
