Transmission will not shift to upper gear

Starting driving and light came on. I could not tell what kind but my transmission would not shift to the upper gear I have it in drive, but it needs to shift one more time and it does not.

Good afternoon.

Most likely it is the check engine light. You can have the code read for free at a parts store. The code that is set will give us a direction for the failure.
