I recently got my brakes done on my 2007 Jeep Compass Sport at a non-dealership repair shop. The mechanic there told me that I need a transmission flush as well. I didn't have the time or the money to undergo that at the moment, so I told him maybe next time. Since then I have done a bit of research on my vehicle's transmission and found that the Compass has a specific type of transmission called a CVT which apparently can't be serviced by anyone other than a dealership due to specific tools needed to even check on the fluid levels.
So my question(s) are, is it possible he was able to tell that I needed a transmission flush, or was he blowing smoke up my rear?
My Compass is at almost 100k miles, so I'm assuming it probably will need the work done sometime soon. But the dealership I called is quoting me more than twice the amount that the other mechanic quoted me. $350 compared with $150. The mechanic seemed like a really nice guy, and I believed him at the time. It was only after I started doing some research that I wondered if he knew what he was talking about.
I really want to save some money, and I'm not even sure if I absolutely need the work done right now, so I am at a bit of a loss for what to do right now.
